PRAISE & WORSHIP

Propitiation is a two-part act that involves appeasing the wrath of an offended person and being reconciled to him. The word “propitiation” is used to explain what Jesus accomplished through His death on the cross.

For example, Romans 3:24–25 says, “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.

Before Jesus’ atoning sacrifice and free gift of salvation, everyone, both Jews and Gentiles, had sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. All of us deserved God’s wrath and punishment (Romans 1:18, Romans 3:23).

Man was doomed and hopeless, but God intervened. In His infinite grace and mercy, He provided a way for His wrath to be appeased and for man to be reconciled to Him. That way was the sacrificial death of His Son, Jesus Christ, as the payment for sins.

It is through faith in Jesus Christ as God’s perfect sacrifice that we can be reconciled to God. It is only because of Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection on the third day that a lost sinner deserving of hell can be reconciled to a holy God.

Beloved, take time to ponder about this wonderful work of Jesus Christ. An important part of Christ’s saving work is deliverance from God’s wrath; Jesus’ propitiation on the cross is the only thing that can turn away God’s divine condemnation of sin.

The Son of God became the son of man; so that we, the sons of men, might become the sons of God.

Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life offers us all free gift of salvation. In 1 John 4:10, the Bible says, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

Only those who reject His offer shall face God’s wrath and condemnation here and in eternity. You don’t have to be in that number!
